Yes, a hotel made out of ice. Doesn’t that sound awesome? After a friend informed me about this, I became interesting about this particular hotel. There are ice hotels located in Sweden, Canada, Norway, and Romania. The first ice hotel was built in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden and is owned by the company Jukkas (aka ICEHOTEL), which has been a tourist operator since 1970s. By 1980, the company wanted something different. In 1990, Jannot Derit, a French artist, was invited to a specially built igloo for the opening of his exhibition. Arctic Hall, which was the name of the building, attracted many people. There were some foreign guests that decided to take advantage of this igloo, therefore they stayed overnight. After their extraordinary experience, the idea of building “hotels” out of ice was developed. At the start of each winter, many architects, designers, and artists, together, start building the unique and creative ICEHOTEL. The construction of this fascinating hotel has five phases. As each phase is completed each week, it is open to guests. Unfortunately when spring comes, the hotel perishes into the Torne River. Every year, the company builds a different, yet unique and shocking ice hotel. The eighteenth ICEHOTEL was built this winter, which is amazing because the ice hotel has been going on for quite a while. There are many interesting questions that will be answered about the ICEHOTEL. How many nights do guests usually spend? The guests usually spend two nights at the hotel. The first night, they can experience the classic accommodation, which is the cold one. Then after that night, they can enjoy the warm accommodation, which offers private bathrooms, luggage keeping, etc.COLD ACCOMMODATION:	There are three types of rooms in the cold accommodation. The ICEHOTEL Art Suites are beautiful rooms artistically decorated and contain ice art and sculptures. The bed is made out of snow and ice, but don’t worry because the hotel provides thermal sleeping bags and reindeer skins. Similar to the Art Suites, the Design Suites have beds made out of snow and ice. Moreover, it is comfortably furnished and includes fantastic ice sculptures and designs carved on the ice. The ICEHOTEL Ice Room is a very basic room, which only contains the special bed made out of ice and snow, thermal sleeping bags, and reindeer skin. WARM ACCOMMODATION:	You would probably want to stay at one of these warm accommodations after the first night to experience a different, yet pleasant stay at the ICEHOTEL. The Kaamos Hotel Room is a double room that contains a double bed. This room also includes a TV, kettle, and phone. The other two rooms-Nordic Hotel Chalet and Northern Light Hotel Chalet-are very similar but vary in the size and types of bed. The Nordic Hotel Chalet, which is the biggest room out of all three, has two separate bedrooms and a living room. Three people can stay at the Northern Light Hotel Chalet. There are two separate bedrooms, just like the Nordic Hotel Chalet. What is different is that from this room, you can have a fantastic view of the Midnight Sun or Northern lights. Just writing about this hotel makes me want to go there. Although there are many wonderful aspects about this hotel, keep on mind that the price to stay at this hotel is very high. The rooms per night range from $188.79 to $876.53. You can check out the prices here. As you can see, there are many fabulous things out there in the world. The ICEHOTEL is definitely something I will keep in my mind of. Since it is a place where you can visit in the daytime and you don’t necessarily have to stay for the night, maybe in the future I will have a chance to go there and have the great experience. If I go one day, I WILL blog, promise. **Pictures and information were taken from the ICEHOTEL website.
